Insects & Arthropods
The fantastic world of bugs
Ever since I was 4, bugs have been my fascination. Now a senior with dual majors in EEB and Art and Design at the University of Michigan, my passion for bugs has grown into a defining aspect of my academic journey. Every photo and artwork is a testament to my enduring enchantment with these tiny creatures.
Rearing Insects
I absolutely love raising and breeding bugs—it's like having a backstage pass to their incredible world! From rearing up grubs to breeding adults, it's a hands-on adventure. Breeding bugs isn't just watching; it's actively being part of their journey. And it allows me a glimpse into their life history I cannot get in the wild.
Observation of Life History
I'm on a mission to uncover the unknown life histories of bugs. It's like being a detective in the insect world, peeling back layers to reveal their untold stories. Every new species I understand better fuels my fascination and adds an extra layer of excitement to my bug-filled adventures.
Insect Collection
I love collecting and pinning insects, creating my own curated collection. Each pinned specimen is a small masterpiece, turning the short lifespan of an insect into an immortal work of art.
In situ Photography
I really enjoy in situ bug photography—capturing insects in their natural habitats, freezing authentic moments that showcase their dynamic lives. It's about preserving the raw beauty and authenticity of the insect world in every shot.
Insect Collecting
I'm hooked on collecting insects, and one of my favorite techniques is using light traps. It's like setting up a bug beacon, inviting a diverse array of nocturnal creatures to join my collection. As the light illuminates the night, I get a front-row seat to observe and capture the captivating world of nighttime insects. Whether it's the flutter of moths or the buzz of beetles, each bug brings more joy to my night of fun!
Mountain Side Lights
The best part is light trapping takes you to so many places!!! The mountains of West Virginia is alway a favorite.
River lights
What's better is you can tell water quality too with a light trap. This vast array of different aquatic insects came to the light right by a clean mountain creek.
Collecting Shenanigans
This is me in Key Largo, getting fake arrested by a friendly officer that visited my light trap to see what's going on!
